Family Support

A comprehensive assistance and resources designed to aid families in the rehabilitation process of their cherished family members

Addiction is often referred to as a “family disease.” This is because everyone involved is affected in one way or another. The loved ones of the person struggling with addiction are often forced to cover for their behavior and pick up their slack. Family dynamics are severely impacted, and more often than not, what was once a peaceful household becomes an all-out warzone. When a person enters an addiction recovery program, their loved ones require family support so they can simultaneously heal from the devastation of active addiction. For these reasons, family addiction support in Boulder, CO may be right for you.

At Flatirons Recovery, we have created a comprehensive family program for our clients’ loved ones. We combine family therapy sessions with a specially developed family workshop, providing family members with the support and resources they need to heal individually and as a unit. To learn more about our Boulder, Colorado, family program, contact us today.

Why is Family Support Important?

Addiction recovery is an ongoing process, one that continues once treatment concludes. A person has the best chance at continued sobriety when they have support and encouragement from their loved ones. If a person plans to return home following treatment, it is important that they return to a functional, healthy household. In order for this to happen, all members of the family must heal.

When a person who has been battling addiction first goes to treatment, their loved ones likely breathe a giant sigh of relief. Once the dust settles, however, they might find themselves unsure of what steps to take next. The consequences of addiction do not simply vanish once treatment is sought. In most cases, the family members of the person seeking treatment require their own support. This is where family support programs come into play.

What To Expect From The CRAFT Curriculum

CRAFT (Community Reinforcement Approach to Family Training) originated at the University of New Mexico and was developed by Robert Meyers, Ph.D. The free support program was designed for the loved ones of those struggling with addiction. CRAFT helps family members improve their lives by changing how they interact with their loved ones and tend to their mental and emotional needs.

Flatirons Recovery offers a 12-week CRAFT curriculum as part of our comprehensive family program. CRAFT runs as an hour-long group once a week for 12 weeks. Homework is assigned between groups and emailed to each registered recipient. Each session stands on its own. We do not require a commitment to the entire curriculum; any family member of an addicted individual or an individual in recovery can join as few or as many groups as they would like. Contact us directly to learn more.

Additional Resources for Family Members

In addition to offering family therapy sessions and a family workshop, we partner with excellent providers in the community so that those closest to our clients can get the support they need. We are always available to help guide loved ones toward support. Please contact us directly for additional information on resources for family members.

What To Expect

How involved in the addiction treatment process should our clients’ loved ones expect to be? In addition to family therapy, a family workshop, and additional family-oriented support, family members are informed of their loved one’s progress in treatment. Aftercare plans are shared with family members before they are implemented. At Flatirons Recovery, we view addiction treatment as a collaborative effort.

How to Support a Recovering Loved One

The best way to support a recovering loved one is by:

  • Focusing on education, especially when it comes to understanding the Disease Model of Addiction.
  • Staying as involved in the treatment process as possible (while allowing them the space they need to grow and begin standing on their own two feet).
