How to Have Sober Fun In The Fall (In Colorado!)

With the changing seasons comes seasonal beers, Oktoberfest celebrations, and alcohol almost certainly being a part of adult Fall and Halloween festivities, it can be difficult for those seeking to remain sober.

However, you can rest assured that there are plenty of ideas for how to have sober fun in the fall. Read on to discover what you might have an interest in!

Leaf Peeping

Leaf peeping isn’t just an activity for sober curious people – it’s enjoyed by thousands of people all over the country each year! Leaf peeping is simply admiring the beauty of the changing colors of fall foliage, and Colorado has plenty of opportunities to do so. It can be enjoyed while walking or driving, and with how many places there are in the state that offer beautiful views of the dazzling oranges, yellows, and golds this season is known for, you could make a weekend trip out of it.

Hot Springs

The soothingly warm water found at one of Colorado’s many natural hot springs make for a perfectly tranquil environment to relax and reflect for those in addiction recovery or who have just finished addiction treatment, and sober curious people will no doubt find them enjoyable as well. There are a wide variety of destinations to choose from, some that also include lodging, dining and shopping options, spas, and other amenities.

Durango Art Festival

The Durango Art Festival showcases the work of talented local and regional artists skilled in a variety of mediums and attracts thousands of visitors every year. From painting and photography to metalwork, glasswork, and so much more, you’ll be amazed by just how much creativity is on display. In addition to the art on display, you should also do some leaf peeping because the streets are lined with trees full of leaves featuring a gorgeous array of colors. There’s a lot for sober curious to enjoy here.

Elk Tours in Estes Park

Estes Park is home to Elk Fest – a two-day event that features live music and performances, food trucks, contests, vendors, and more! If you’re lucky, you might even see a few elk roaming around the town because they make their way down into the valley every fall for rutting season to try and find a mate. Elk Fest might not be the best fit if you’re triggered when around alcohol, so a private elk tour or an old-fashion hike at the nearby Rocky Mountain National Park might be a better idea.

If you’re sober curious, or going through addiction recovery, rest assured that parties with alcohol aren’t the only way to enjoy Halloween as an adult. You can head up to the Stanley Hotel, the structure the Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick’s horror thriller The Shining was based on, and stay the night. In addition to the movie connection, the hotel is also thought to be haunted, and you can learn all about it on a 60-minute walking tour the hotel offers.
